About
TONY CONCEP
Anthony Christopher Brown Jr. | Tony Concep is a multidimensional artist and creative director based in Greater San Diego whose work bridges fine art and commercial design. Born in New Orleans and raised in Charleston, he earned his BFA in Film Animation from Pratt Institute and has developed a distinctive visual language merging African traditional art forms with contemporary urban aesthetics.
Tony's commercial portfolio includes collaborations with Nike, Adidas, MTV Networks, Microsoft, and Beats By Dre, while his fine art has been featured in Vice and Fader magazines. A career highlight came in 2014 when he was selected for the WAT-AAH! exhibition at the New Museum, NYC, presenting his work to First Lady Michelle Obama.
His current "Blackbirds" collection features large-format mixed media paintings inspired by West African Mapiko masks, serving as both "tribute and protest" against the erasure of African art from education. Recently selected for the prestigious ICONIC NOW exhibition at Launch Gallery, Los Angeles (July 2025), Tony continues to position art as a vehicle for cultural preservation while maintaining technical innovation and authentic voice.
