Created in the early 2000s, shortly after my graduation from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, The Alchemist / Personal Legend draws direct inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s seminal novel The Alchemist. This large-format mixed-media work traces the journey of Santiago, the shepherd boy in pursuit of his destiny. The composition moves upward—from the oasis and desert landscapes that ground his pilgrimage—to the pyramids at the upper register, symbolizing both transcendence and the guiding hand of God. The piece reflects a pivotal period in my own artistic evolution, where narrative, myth, and personal transformation converged on canvas.
